Blepharoplasty
Eyelid surgery to remove or reshape excess tissue
Overview
Blepharoplasty is surgery on the upper or lower eyelids to remove or reposition excess skin, muscle, and fat. Upper lid blepharoplasty is often done for function when hooded skin, called dermatochalasis, droops over the lashes and blocks the upper field of vision, and it is also among the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures. Lower lid blepharoplasty mainly addresses under eye bags. The surgery is performed by oculoplastic, plastic, or facial plastic surgeons, usually under local anesthesia. It is distinct from ptosis repair, which tightens the muscle that lifts the lid itself.
